Baopu·FELT is a nonprofit art space based in Kaili, Guizhou, centered on artist residencies, research, exhibitions, and publishing. It is dedicated to fostering interdisciplinary artistic practices rooted in the folk cultures, intangible heritage, and local ecologies of Southwest China.

Bio/Statement

Xu Xurui holds a Master’s degree in Sculpture from the Academy of Fine Arts in Palermo, located on the island of Sicily, Italy. Her artistic practice primarily uses visual materials as a medium to explore the constant yet unconscious instinctual activities within human beings. In recent years, her work has focused on the relationships between language, writing, consciousness, and cultural structures—tracing the manifestations of thought into everyday usage. Adopting the perspective of a “human observer,” she reflects on the human condition, unfolding and revealing various relationships measured by human scale, while persistently seeking their origins.

During his residency at FELT, Xurui will work under the theme “Language — A Vessel of Thought.” The project explores how non-standardized languages carry unique ways of thinking and perceiving, appearing not only as words and symbols but also through sound, tone, and context. These forms are understood as hidden threads that sustain cultural continuity and spiritual order.Living and working within the local community, he aims to build trust and capture three representative forms of “distinct thought,” guiding them into contemporary contexts. This process is envisioned not as replication, but as organic growth: thought sprouting from the land and extending into new environments. The residency will include open workshops and situated interactions, allowing the work to grow in dialogue with the community. The final presentation will take the form of an installation or site-specific work, leaving behind traces that remain open to future activation.

艺术家简介

徐旭睿，毕业于意大利西西里岛的巴勒莫美术学院，获雕塑专业硕士学位。我的创作主要以视觉材料为媒介，关注人类内在恒定而无意识的本能活动。近年来的实践，聚焦于语言、文字、意识与文化结构之间的关系，从思维的显现延伸至日常的使用行为，以“人类观察者”的姿态回望人自身，展开并显现各种以人为尺度的“关系”，并持续追溯其源头。

在抱朴FELT驻地期间，我将以《语言——思想的载体》为题，探索非通用语言所承载的独特思想与感知方式。它们或化作文字与符号，或流淌在声音、语调与语境之中，是文化延续与精神秩序的隐秘脉络。我希望在当地生活场域中，与社群建立交流与信任，捕捉三组具有代表性的“独有思想”，并在创作中尝试让它们过渡进当代语境。这种过渡不是复制或再现，而是一种生长的方式：思想自土地中发芽，在新的语境中延展。创作过程中我将保持谦卑与中立，通过开放性的工作坊与在地互动，让作品与社区共生，最终以装置或场域性形式呈现，并留下可继续被触发的痕迹。
