Baopu·FELT is a nonprofit art space based in Kaili, Guizhou, centered on artist residencies, research, exhibitions, and publishing. It is dedicated to fostering interdisciplinary artistic practices rooted in the folk cultures, intangible heritage, and local ecologies of Southwest China.

“esea contemporary is pleased to present From Island to Mountain Town, an online panel discussion moderated by curator and writer Binghuang Xu. Bringing together practitioners from four independent art organisations across China, the conversation explores how contemporary art is shaped by place, and how artistic practice emerges in regions beyond established cultural centres.
The discussion considers what it means to work where cultural infrastructure, education, social support, and public resources remain limited, and how these conditions continually reshape artistic approaches. Rather than treating such contexts as peripheral, the speakers reflect on how art becomes a way of making space, building relationships, and responding to local realities......
英国艺术机构esea contemporary 荣幸呈现“从岛屿到山城”线上圆桌讨论，由策展人、写作者许冰煌主持。讨论汇聚来自中国四个独立艺术机构的实践者，共同探讨当代艺术如何被地方所塑造，以及艺术实践如何在既有文化中心之外的地区生发。

“The residency programs we have developed bring these contradictions into particularly sharp focus. Residencies grounded in relationships and collaboration can generate encounters that might never otherwise take place. At the same time, they can turn a place into a short-term creative resource, requiring relationships to develop rapidly within a limited period and complex experiences to be converted into artworks, exhibitions, and entries on individual résumés.
This compels us to keep asking ourselves: in providing artists and researchers with ways of entering a place, are we also constructing another kind of infrastructure for observing and extracting local experience? After participants leave, in whose hands do the artworks, relationships, resources, and authority to interpret what has taken place ultimately remain......
我们所搭建的驻地项目，集中呈现了这些矛盾。以关系和协作为基础的驻地能够促成原本不会发生的相遇，也可能把地方变成短期创作资源，在有限时间内要求关系迅速发生，并将复杂经验转化为作品、展览与个人履历。
这也迫使我们持续自问：在为艺术家与研究者提供进入地方的通道时，是否也建立了另一套观看与提取地方经验的基础设施？当参与者离开之后，作品、关系、资源与解释权最终分别留在谁手中......”

“In the work of the artists in residence, I could genuinely sense the process of negotiation between different individuals and unfamiliar places, intertwined with hesitation, curiosity, and a sense of humanistic care. Yet in the curator’s foreword, as well as in the “asides” interspersed throughout the exhibition, there is an abundance of textual material that calls to be read, understood, and discussed within the institutional context of Baopu·FELT itself. Together, these texts reveal the difficulties and pains of how a non-profit space situated in a particular “place” continues to operate through constant processes of self-adjustment......
在驻地艺术家的创作里，我真切体会到不同个体与陌生地域间的磨合过程，之中交织着迟疑、好奇和人文关怀的温度。然而，在策展人的前言写作以及展览中穿插的“话外”回应里，有太多的文字内容等待被放置于抱朴·FELT自身的机构语境中去阅读、理解和讨论，它们披露出一个居于“地方”的非营利空间如何在不断的自我校准中持续运转的痛苦......”

This half-day gathering begins with a field-sharing session by the artist duo heeh, drawing from their experiences in Kaili and across Southeast Guizhou......
